The Department of Foreign Affairs recently launched an online passport application portal prioritizing first-time overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).
According to DFA Secretary Allan Peter Cayetano, with 1,000 passport appointment slots allotted daily, the new system will bring convenience to first-time OFWs in securing passport appointments faster.
“Sa sistema ngayon, ang lahat ng agencies na accredited and then ang POEA sa direct hire ay may password at mayroon silang direktang access sa portal na ito. Unlike the portal for those who are not provided by law to have a special lane nakalagay lang kung anong araw ang available, sa inyo kahit anong araw okay siya,” Cayetano said.
Cayetano also reiterated that no fee shall be collected from new OFW applicants for securing an appointment.
On the issue of fully-booked DFA offices for passport appointments, Cayetano mentioned about the possibility of implementing longer operation hours of 12 to 16 hours for DFA staff to accommodate more passport applications daily.
The DFA will also provide 140 new passport printing machines to satellite offices to facilitate the processing of passport applications. Each machine is capable of processing 100 new passports in 8 hours.
