To better serve Filipino commuters, the station rehabilitation of Light Rail Transit (LRT) 1 is expected to be completed by mid-2019, its operator said on February 19.
Light Rail Manila Corp. (LRMC) President Juan Alfonso told reporters following a media briefing that the rehabilitation program for LRT-1 is set to be concluded in two years time.
The company earlier announced it has earmarked P500 million for the project dubbed as “Station Improvement Program” which would focus on physical upgrade of its stations to provide better transportation system to its more than 500, 000 passengers daily.
“LRT-1 has complete new rails. [We’ve just] completed it last January 2018. In terms of other left works, it’s the rehabilitation of some other trains. We’re upgrading the trains,” he said.
Currently, LRMC has already finished its rehabilitation plan for stations in Doroteo Jose, Pedro Gil, Gil Puyat, UN Avenue, R. Papa, and Abad Santos.
Moreover, at the media briefing, LRMC partnered with PLDT wireless subsidiary Smart to enhance the mobile and WiFi coverage of LRT-1 stations.
Commuters are given initial free minutes of Smart WiFi, the unit said.
Ramon Isberto, head of PLDT and Smart Public Affairs, said this move mirrors the telco’s commitment in boosting the deployment of its long term evolution mobile phone coverage in Metro Manila.
