Manila Mayor Joseph “Erap” Estrada has urged city voters to choose candidates who have no involvement in corruption and illegal drugs, signaling his support for President Rodrigo Duterte’s campaign against criminality.
This was Estrada’s call given the fast-approaching Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections.
“I am appealing sa ating mga botante to reject ‘yung mga candidates na sangkot sa korapsyon at sa illegal drugs. This is the reason why I am appealing to all to vote for candidates who are actively fighting the war against corruption and illegal drugs at the barangay levels,” he said during the recent congress of the League of Municipalities in the Philippines.
Estrada stressed this was to support the current adminstration’s fight against illegal acts.
“Nakikiusap din ako na suportahan natin si Presidente Rodrigo Duterte sa kanyang campaign against criminality and corruption. Napakalaki ng maitutulong natin na magtagumpay ang kampanya upang tuluyan nang madurog ang kasamaan at kriminalidad kung tayong lahat ay magtutulungan na mawala ang mga opisyal na may kaugnayan sa katiwalian at sa bawal na gamot,” he said.
Earlier, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Director General Aaron Aquino came up with a list of around 143 village chiefs and 146 village councilors involved in illegal drugs, which lists Estrada believes would help the voters in choosing the candidates wisely.
“It surely will help the voters na mag-decide sa iboboto nila at maganda yan nang magkaalaman na kung sino-sino ang nakikinabang sa korapsyon at sa ilegal na droga,” he said.
